DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -  Dallas police say they have noticed a disturbing new trend: Sex predators using social media, online classified ads, and dating sites to lure their victims.

Israel Herrara with police said so far this year two women were raped after meeting up with a stranger they met online.

"These criminals are exploiting the willingness to meet up by lying about who they are, their identity and their appearance and intentions."

He is asking anyone that may have been a victim during an online date, to call police.

Herrera suggested a double date with one of your friends, telling someone about your plans or meeting in a public place. If he doesn't want to meet in public, that's a sign he could have bad intentions.

"If at any point you feel uncomfortable about the conversation or situation, leave. If it feels too good to be true, it probably is."

If you have been a victim of a sexual assault through a social media/dating site, please contact the Dallas Police Sexual Assault Unit at 214-671-3584.
