Rangers Top A's 3-1 Behind Call-Up Wolf

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The Texas Rangers were able to salvage the final game of their three game series with the Oakland Athletics, winning behind unknown starter Ross Wolf, 3-1.

Wolf, making the first start of his career, was called up as an emergency starter after rookie Nick Tepesch was ruled out with a blister on his pitching hand.

Wolf went 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 3 for his first career win.

The Texas offense managed 3 runs on 6 hits, but that was all Wolf and the bullpen needed to get the win.

David Murphy and Adrian Beltre got the Rangers started with home runs in the first inning. Murphy's came after Elvis Andrus singled to left field to start the bottom of the first. Beltre's shot, measured at 433 feet, was a solo shot to center field.

Recent call up Neil Cotts pitched two innings, allowing 1 hit, while striking out 3. Robbie Ross and Joe Nathan tossed a perfect 8th and 9th to give the Rangers a 5 and a half game lead in the West.

The Rangers have an off-day on Thursday before opening a three-game set in Seattle beginning Friday.
