SURPRISE, AZ (105.3 THE FAN) - The Rangers plan to make an announcement on Wednesday regarding their plans for injured pitcher Yu Darvish.
According to initial reports from team doctors Darvish has a torn ligament in his right elbow - he's set to meet with doctors for a second opinion on the injury tomorrow.
"My experience has been when that's the diagnosis, and it's an issue with the elbow or the shoulder, it usually something you have to deal with at some point in time." Rangers GM Jon Daniels told 105.3 The Fan.
Darvish is contemplating ligament reconstruction surgery after an MRI revealed that the Rangers pitcher has a sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow.
Darvish left his first start of spring training after one inning on Thursday, and underwent the MRI by team physician Dr. Keith Meister on Friday.
So, what's next for Darvish? Jon Daniels communicated that Yu Darvish has three options moving forward:
1) Pitch through the injury and the discomfort.
2) Rest and rehab, re-evaluating the injury at the appropriate time.
3) (Season ending) Tommy John surgery.
