DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - A day after being designated for assignment, Rangers catcher Chris Gimenez has been traded to the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations.
The club activated Gimenez from the 15-day DL and designated him for assignment to make room on 40-man roster for new acquired catcher Bobby Wilson.
Gimenez has been on the DL all season after sustaining an infection in his lower left leg during the last week of spring training.
He was on rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco from April 25-May 2 and batted .240 (6-25) with one homer and 4 RBI in 7 games.
Gimenez batted .255 with 5 homers and 14 RBI in 36 games for Texas in 2015. This will mark his second stint with the Indians. He was traded by Texas to Cleveland for future considerations on August 23, 2014 and was 0-for-9 in 8 games the rest of the year
