Rangers Trade De La Cruz Back To Cleveland
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) – The Texas Rangers have traded Kelvin De La Cruz back to Cleveland, less than a month after acquiring the left-handed minor league pitcher from the Indians.
De La Cruz was sent back to Cleveland on Thursday for cash considerations, the same way he had been acquired Feb. 21 by the Rangers.
Cleveland had designated the 23-year-old De La Cruz for assignment on Feb. 14 to make room on their roster after free agent first baseman Casey Kotchman signed with the Indians. De La Cruz spent last season at Double-A Akron, where he went 5-6 with a 4.19 ERA in 23 games, and had been the Indians organization since 2004.
Texas also optioned right-handers Wilmer Font and Matt West to Class-A Myrtle Beach and reassigned right-hander Fabio Castillo to Double-A Frisco.
