Rangers To Honor Michael Young On May 17

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Texas Rangers will honor Michael Young at a pre-game ceremony on May 17 at Globe Life Park.

The ceremony will begin at 6:45 p.m., prior to the club's game with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Young's lifelong friend, former MLB outfielder Vernon Wells, will be among those making remarks. Other presenters and ceremony details will be announced at a later date.

Young retired as a Ranger on Jan. 31, 2014, after a 13-year career.

In 11 full seasons with Texas (2002-12), Young made seven AL All-Star teams and was voted as the club's Player of the Year on five occasions.

Young is the Rangers all-time leader in games (1823), hits (2230), runs (1085), doubles (415), triples (55), total bases (3286), at bats (7399), and multi-hit games (651).

He batted .300 or better seven times, including six seasons with at least 200 hits.

Overall, Young batted .300 with 185 homers and 1030 RBI in 1970 games with Texas.
