Rangers Sign LHP Joe Beimel For 2015

SURPRISE, AZ (105.3 THE FAN) -- The Texas Rangers have signed left-handed pitcher Joe Beimel to a one-year major league contract for the 2015 season.

Beimel, 37, went 3-1 with a 2.20 ERA in 56 relief appearances for Seattle last season. Left-handed hitters batted just .188 (15-80) in 85 plate appearances.

Dating back to 2006, Beimel has held left-handed hitters to a .234 average.

The lefty did not play in the major leagues in 2012 and 2013 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in his left elbow in May 2012. He had been in Spring Training with Texas that year, but was released on March 26.

Beimel has a career record of 27-33 with a 4.07 ERA over 623 games (23 starts). He has played with Pittsburgh (2001-03, 2011), Minnesota (2004), Tampa Bay (2005), Los Angeles-NL (2006-08), Washington (2009), Colorado (2009-10), and Seattle (2014).

The Rangers' Feb. 24 waiver claim of LHP Edgar Olmos from Seattle has been formally reversed, keeping the Rangers' 40-man roster at 40.
