Rangers Sign Catcher Torrealba to Two-Year Deal
Arlington (Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers agreed to terms with veteran catcher Yorvit Torrealba on a two-year contract on Monday.
Financial terms of the deal were not announced, per team policy.
The 32-year-old backstop spent the 2010 season with San Diego and hit .271 with seven home runs and 37 runs batted in over 95 contests while serving mostly as a backup.
Over 669 career regular-season big league games, Torrealba has totaled 45 homers, 272 RBI and 237 runs scored to go with a .257 batting average with San Francisco, Seattle, Colorado, and the Padres.
In 17 postseason contests, Torrealba has compiled a .268 average with two home runs and 13 RBI.
Also on Monday, the Rangers signed pitcher Mark Lowe to a one-year deal. After coming over in the Cliff Lee trade from Seattle in July, Lowe appeared in only three regular-season games with Texas, due to back surgery in June and pitched to a 12.00 ERA over three innings.
The right-hander then made two World Series appearances, spanning two-thirds of an inning and allowed five earned runs on four hits for a 67.50 ERA.
