Rangers Set Pitching Rotation
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - If there was any suspense surrounding the Texas Rangers pitching rotation to start the season, it is now over.
The Rangers announced late this afternoon that Colby Lewis will get the ball on opening day when the Rangers host the Chicago White Sox. The game is already sold out. It will be the first opening day start for Lewis.
During the regular season last year, Lewis was 14-10 with a 4.40 ERA. This spring training season, he has posted an 0-2 record in three games. But, it is spring training.
Lewis will be the fourth different Texas starter to take the mound on opening day in four years. Kevin Millwood was the starter in 2009 followed by Scott Feldman in 2010 and C.J. Wilson last year.
The rest of the Rangers rotation looks like this. Ron Washington is going with left-handers on back-to-back days with Derek Holland starting Saturday and Matt Harrison on Sunday.
Yu Darvish starts the year as the fourth starter of the rotation. His first regular season Major League Baseball game will be Monday, April 9th, at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington against the Seattle Mariners.
Neftali Feliz rounds out the rotation as the team's fifth starter. When he takes the ball on April 10th, it will be his first Major League start. Feliz has been saving games for Texas since 2009.
Other Rangers notes:
The team says about 4,500 tickets remain for Saturday's game against Chicago. Approximately 10,000 tickets are still available for Sunday's game. Texas says plenty of tickets remain for Monday's debut of Yu Darvish. However, with the rotation announcement today, tickets are expected to start selling quickly for that game.
Winning apparently breeds record ticket sales. The team announced that they surpassed the 20,000 mark in full season ticket sales for the first time in franchise history.
