Rangers Score Record Number Of Spots For All-Star Game
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Seven members of the Texas Rangers have been selected to play for the American League in 2012 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
The number is a club record for the Rangers.
According to the Associated Press outfielder Josh Hamilton received a record total of more than 11 million fan votes. He will start for the fifth consecutive year.
Catcher Mike Napoli and third baseman Adrian Beltre will also start. This is the first time the Rangers will have three elected starters in the All-Star Game.
Second baseman Ian Kinsler was selected by vote of the league's players, managers and coaches.
Shortstop Elvis Andrus, left-hand pitcher Matt Harrison and right-handed pitcher Joe Nathan were named as manager's selections by American League skipper Ron Washington.
Yu Darvish was named as one of the five pitchers in the running for the 34th and final spot on the American League team. Fans can vote for Darvish online till Thursday.
The All-Star Game is on Tuesday, July 13 at Kaufman Stadium in Kansas City.
