Rangers Radio Voice Nadel Finalist For Top Award
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- Longtime Rangers radio broadcaster Eric Nadel has been named a finalist for the 2014 Ford C. Frick Award for the fourth consecutive year.
The award is presented annually for excellence in baseball broadcasting by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The winner will be announced at the Baseball Winter Meetings on Dec. 11 and honored as part of Hall of Fame Weekend 2014 in Cooperstown in July.
Nadel has spent the last 35 seasons with Texas, including 19 as the club's lead play-by-play voice. That represents the longest tenure in franchise history.
The nine other finalists for the award are: Joe Castiglione, Jacques Doucet, Ken Harrelson, Bill King, Duane Kuiper, Eduardo Ortega, Mike Shannon, Dewayne Staats and Pete van Wieren.
Seven of the finalists, including Nadel, were selected by a Hall of Fame research committee. Doucet, King and Kuiper were selected by fans on the Hall of Fame's Facebook site.
Nadel became the 15th member to be inducted into the Texas Rangers Hall Of Fame last year. He has won the Texas Sportscaster of the Year award seven times during his career with the Rangers.
