Rangers Put Beltre On 15-Day DL
ARLINGTON (AP) - Adrian Beltre is getting some extra time to recover from a strained left quad after the Texas Rangers put their third baseman on the 15-day disabled list Sunday.
The move came just before the series finale against Houston, when newly acquired right-hander Hector Noesi was added to the Rangers roster.
Beltre hasn't played since coming out of Tuesday's game at Boston. His DL move is retroactive to Wednesday, and he could be eligible to come off the DL as early as April 24, a day off for Texas.
General manager Jon Daniels had said this weekend that the team was going to be cautious with the 35-year-old Beltre to make sure the quad didn't become a lingering problem. Beltre has dealt with several leg issues during his four seasons with the Rangers, though he has proven is ability to keep playing despite them.
Manager Ron Washington said Beltre came out of a workout Saturday with no issues. Beltre was supposed to go through another workout Sunday, but was unable to because it was raining and the protective tarp remained on the field until an hour before the game started.
"He was able to go out, he was gung-ho," Washington said. "He thought we should move the tarp and let him go out there."
Noesi was acquired Saturday from Seattle for a player to be named or cash. He was designated for assignment April 4.
