Rangers Protect Russell Wilson On Triple-A Roster

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Texas Rangers have no intention of Russell Wilson playing a meaningful game with the organization. That doesn't mean they're ready to cut ties with the Super Bowl winning quarterback.
Texas will place Wilson on its Triple-A roster prior to Thursday's Rule 5 draft, according to GM Jon Daniels.
By doing so, any team that selected Wilson would be required to place Wilson on its big league roster. Such a move is highly unlikely.
The Rangers picked Wilson for $12,000 in the Rule 5 minor league draft in December last year.
He spent a day at spring training in Arizona with the Rangers, taking ground balls and spending time with the team. He also threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Globe Life Park in Arlington in April.

The Rangers have indicated to Wilson's representatives that he is welcome back to spring training this year, according to Jeff Wilson of the Star Telegram.
