Rangers, Moreland Agree To One-Year Deal

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Texas Rangers and first baseman Mitch Moreland have agreed to a one-year contract for the 2014 season, the team announced on Friday.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Reports place the value of the deal at $2.65 million.

With the deal, Texas will avoid salary arbitration with all eligible players in 2014. In fact, the club has not reached an arbitration hearing with a player since 2000.

Moreland, 28, batted .232 with 24 doubles, 23 home runs, and 60 RBI in 147 games for Texas in 2013, establishing career highs in games, doubles, homers, RBI, walks (45), and total bases (202).

He is expected to be used primarily at designated hitter in 2014, as newcomer Prince Fielder will play the majority of games at first.
