SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — The Texas Rangers have acquired catcher Bryan Holaday in a trade with the Detroit Tigers.

Holaday hit .281 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 24 games with Detroit last season. The Dallas native played college ball at TCU.

Detroit received minor league right-hander Myles Jaye and catcher Bobby Wilson in Tuesday's deal. Wilson played for Tampa Bay and Texas last season, batting .189 with a homer and 14 RBIs in 56 games.

The Rangers said Holaday will join the team on Friday. Holaday, who made his major league debut with Detroit in 2012, is a .251 hitter with three homers and 30 RBIs in 108 career games.

Texas also designated left-hander Sam Freeman for assignment.
