ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) — The Texas Rangers fired a member of its social media department after that person posted "Fire Charlie" on the Rangers' Twitter account Saturday afternoon.

The University of Texas Longhorns and head football coach Charlie Strong were in the middle of losing a 50-7 game against TCU in Fort Worth when the tweet was posted, according to Sports Illustrated. The Rangers deleted the tweet and later issued an apology to Strong and UT.

"The Texas Rangers wish to apologize to the University of Texas and its head football coach Charlie Strong for the very inappropriate and insensitive message that was briefly posted on the team's Twitter account this afternoon," the apology said. "The Rangers sincerely regret this incident and have taken the appropriate measures to make certain it does not occur in the future."

The Rangers said the former employee was not working for the Rangers nor at Globe Life Park Saturday when the tweet was posted. That person no longer works for the Rangers "effective immediately," the team said.
