AL West Tied Up After A's Top Rangers 4-2
OAKLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - It came down to an inch, literally.
The A's beat the Rangers 4-2 in the first of the three game series at O.co Coliseum on Monday afternoon. The difference was a 5th inning home-run off the bat of Coco Crisp, that barely touched the left field foul pole. The play was reviewed, and upheld by crew chief Ron Kulpa.
The win for the A's puts them in a dead-lock tie for first place with the Rangers.
Derek Holland took the mound for Texas, but wasn't very good. He got pulled in the 5th inning, after throwing just 74 pitches. He walked five A's hitters, and gave up 3 earned runs.
Oakland's Closer Grant Balfour got himself into trouble in the ninth inning, but got some help from the Rangers hitters to get out of the jam.
With runners on second and third and one out, Kinsler swung at the first pitch he saw, and flied out to right field. The next batter, Adrian Beltre also swung at Balfour's first pitch, and grounded out to third to end the ball-game.
Texas stranded 11 runners, and were 0-9 with runners in scoring position.
