SURPRISE (CBSDFW.COM) -- The Texas Rangers have received left-handed pitcher Edgar Olmos on a waiver claim from the Seattle Mariners.
The Mariners designated the 24-year-old Olmos for assignment on Feb. 18. He had previously been sent to Seattle from Miami on a waiver claim last November.
Last season, Olmos split time between Jacksonville (AA) and New Orleans (AAA), where he combined to go 3-3 with 3 saves and a 4.06 ERA in 51 relief appearances.
His only major league action came with the Marlins in 2013, when he had an 0-1 record, allowing 4 earned runs in 5.0 innings.
The 6-foot-4 Olmos was drafted in the third round (83rd overall) of the 2008 draft. Baseball America ranked him as the Marlins' No. 23 prospect in 2013.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Rangers have placed Jurickson Profar on the 60-day disabled list. Profar underwent right shoulder surgery on Monday and is expected to miss the entire 2015 season.
