Rangers: Best Of The Worst-Case Scenario
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The 2012 Texas Rangers didn't repeat as the American League West champions again, dropping their season-long hold on first place in a 12-5 loss in game 162 of the year to the Oakland A's.
But thanks to the quirky new baseball playoff rules, the Rangers get one more chance to keep the hope alive - by facing either the Orioles or Yankees Friday night in a one-game playoff.
So without further ado - here are the playoff scenarios and ticket information:
If the Yankees beat Boston and Orioles lose to Tampa Bay tonight, or if both the Yankees and Orioles lose, the Rangers will host the O's Friday Night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
The Rangers would host the Wild Card game since it won the season series against Baltimore, 5-2.
In any other scenario, the Rangers will play a Wild Card Game on the road Friday.
If the Yankees and Orioles both win on Wednesday, the Rangers would travel to Baltimore to play the Orioles Friday.
If the Orioles win and the Yankees lose Wednesday, Baltimore would then host the Yankees in a tiebreak game on Thursday to determine the A.L. East Champion.
Since the Yankees and Orioles tied 9-9 in their season series, Baltimore would host the game due to a better intradivision record.
If the Yankees win the tiebreak, then the Orioles would host the Rangers in the Wild Card game on Friday. If the Orioles win the tiebreak, then the Yankees would host the Rangers in the Wild Card game on Friday.
Confused yet? You can thank Major League Baseball for that one.
So, hoping for the best case for our worst-case scenario means individual tickets for a potential Wild Card game at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington are now on sale, and are available at TexasRangers.com.
