Rangers Announce Opening Day Roster vs Mariners

ARLINGTON (105.3 THE FAN) - On Sunday, the Texas Rangers made the final roster moves to get down to the opening day limit of 25 players.

PITCHERS (12): Tony Barnette, Jake Diekman, Sam Dyson, Andrew Faulkner, Cole Hamels, Derek Holland, Keone Kela, Phil Klein, Colby Lewis, Martin Perez, Shawn Tolleson, Tom Wilhelmsen.

Cole Hamels has been picked to start on opening day for the AL West champion Texas Rangers. Hamels will be the seventh different Texas starter on opening day in as many years. Hamels previously started the opener for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2013 and 2015.

Hamels went 7-1 in 12 starts after the Rangers got him in a trade with the Phillies last July 31.

CATCHERS (2): Robinson Chirinos, Bryan Holaday.

The Rangers recently acquired catcher Bryan Holaday in a trade with the Detroit Tigers. Holaday hit .281 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 24 games with Detroit last season. The Dallas native played college ball at TCU.

INFIELDERS (6): Hanser Alberto, Elvis Andrus, Adrian Beltre, Prince Fielder, Mitch Moreland, Rougned Odor.

OUTFIELDERS (5): Shin-Soo Choo, Delino DeShields, Ian Desmond, Ryan Rua, Justin Ruggiano.

15-DAY DL (4): RHP Yu Darvish, C Chris Gimenez, OF Josh Hamilton, RHP Luke Jackson.

Darvish's trip to the DL is retroactive to March 25 as he recovers from right elbow surgery. C Gimenez is retroactive to March 27 with infection in left lower leg. Hamilton is retroactive to March 25 as he recovers from left knee surgery. Luke Jackson retroactive to March 25 with a stress reaction in his lower back.

60-DAY DL (1): RHP Tanner Scheppers.

Following Saturday's game, Texas assigned non-roster players RHP A.J. Griffin, LHP Cesar Ramos, and INF Pedro Ciriaco to Triple-A Round Rock of the Pacific Coast League.

The Rangers now have 40 players on their major league roster.
