Rangers And Yankees Renew Friday Night Rivalry
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – The New York Yankees make their first visit to Rangers Ballpark in Arlington Friday since A-Rod looked at a called third strike and the Rangers hoisted the A.L. Championship trophy last season.
Both teams enter this three game series below full strength.
The Rangers injury woes have been well documented. Josh Hamilton won't play in this series. Nelson Cruz apparently won't be available until Saturday, at the earliest, with a strained quad muscle. Darren O'Day and Tommy Hunter are on the disabled list.
One bright note for the Rangers is Neftali Feliz should come off the disabled list and be ready for tonight's game against the Bronx Bombers. Feliz has been on the shelf because of inflammation in his right shoulder.
The Yankees have their own share of health issues. Derek Jeter sat out Thursday because of a sore hip.
Will the New York shortstop be ready to go tonight? The injuries continued when reserve infielder Endy Chavez broke a bone in his foot during yesterday's game.
Tonight's game will be a rematch of the April 15 Friday Night Baseball game on TXA 21.
Texas sends Matt Harrison (3-3, 4.59 ERA) to the mound in hopes of getting the starting pitcher back on track. Harrison got off to a blazing 3-0. His last victory was against the Yankees. In his last three starts, Harrison has posted 3 losses while giving up 14 runs.
The Yankees will counter with Ivan Nova (2-2, 5.14 ERA). The right-hander got the loss after giving up 5 runs to Texas on April 15th.
You can expect a large and loud crowd. Tonight's game is sold out. Actor Matthew McConaughey will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Fireworks will follow after the game.
We will get you ready for the big game on TXA 21. Our Friday Night baseball coverage begins at 6:30 P.M. Bill Jones and Mark McLemore will anchor our pre-game coverage.
The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. After the final out, Bill and Mark will be back to break down the game and have interviews with some of the Rangers.
