Rangers acquire OF Jeff Francoeur from Mets

The Texas Rangers announced tonight that the club has acquired outfielder Jeff Francoeur and cash considerations from the New York Mets in exchange for infielder Joaquin Arias.  Francoeur is expected to join the Rangers for tonight's series finale in Kansas City.  He would be eligible for any potential Rangers postseason roster.

Francouer, 26, has batted .237 with 11 home runs and 54 RBI in 124 games with New York-NL this season.  Against left-handed pitchers in 2010, the right-handed hitting Francouer has a .280 (28-100) average this season with 3 home runs and 13 RBI.  He owns a career .296 average against left-handed pitchers.  He has 118 games/109 starts in right field for the Mets this season.

Francouer is a career .267 hitter over 830 big league games with Atlanta (2005-09) and New York-NL (2009-10) with 99 home runs.  He finished third in National League Rookie of the Year voting with Atlanta in 2005 and won a Gold Glove with the Braves in 2007.

Arias had been designated for assignment last Tuesday when Alex Cora was promoted to the majors.  He has batted .276 in 50 games/22 starts for Texas this season.  A member of the Opening Day roster, he had two stints on the Texas disabled list in 2010.

Boggs had been optioned to Oklahoma City (AAA) yesterday when the club activated outfielder Nelson Cruz from the 15-day disabled list.  He went 0-for-7 with a walk in 4 games with Texas from Aug. 15-29, but had not played since Aug. 21 at Baltimore.  With Oklahoma City (AAA) this season, Boggs has batted .285 with 10 home runs, 24 doubles, 71 runs, and 49 RBI in 101 games.

With these moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
