Ranger Of The Week: Matt Harrison

ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – The Texas Rangers are slowly starting to right the ship.  After returning home from a long 10 games on the road that saw the Rangers go 4 and 6, Texas took 2 of 3 from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Rangers brain trust has always said pitching and defense will help win ball games.  And this week's Ranger Of The Week supports that philosophy.

In our staff picks this week, one player was a near unanimous selection.

Starting pitcher Matt Harrison pitched two games last week.  He went 1 and 0 with a  0.00 ERA.  In 16 innings of work he gave up 11 hits, walked 2 and struck out 7.  He held opponents to a .193 batting average.

Another pitcher was able to pick up an honorable mention.

Colby Lewis got the vote of CBS 11 Assignment Editor Mike Pool for Lewis' complete game performance against Arizona that set the tone for the home stand.

And CBS 11 Sports Photographer Bret Kelly went out on the limb and nominated the disabled list, since that seems to be the most popular place for Ranger players these days.

The DL list is growing long with pitchers Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando and Koji Uehara on the 15 day disabled list. Pitcher Neftali Feliz was transferred to the 60 day DL. Josh Hamilton is out of action, and in the hospital, for tonight's Friday Night Baseball game because of an intestinal virus.

And this writer's honorable mention goes to someone who is not a member of the team but is the driving force behind Ranger Of The Week on CBSDFW.com.
