Randy Travis In Critical Condition After Stroke
PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - Country music superstar Randy Travis was listed in critical condition at a Plano hospital late Wednesday night after undergoing surgery following a stroke. Baylor Health Care System posted an update on its website saying that Travis was out of surgery to "relieve pressure on his brain."
An earlier statement said that the country music legend's family members and friends are requesting prayers and support. Travis was admitted to the hospital on Sunday.
Earlier on Wednesday, doctors at Baylor Medical Center said in an online video that the music superstar's condition had "stabilized" and "shown signs of improvement." While at a McKinney hospital, doctors deduced that Travis has cardiomyopathy, a weakening of the heart muscles caused by a viral infection, and congestive heart failure.
After stabilizing the singer, doctors made the decision to transfer the 54-year-old to the Heart Hospital Baylor Plano on Monday for "a higher level of specialized care" at the location.
Just last month, the Grammy Award winning singer attended the 2013 CMT Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee. While he lives in North Texas, Travis is still an actively touring performer. He was scheduled to be in South Dakota this week. His tour bus is even parked outside of the hospital where he now fights for his life.
