Randy Travis Arrested For DWI Near Tioga
SHERMAN (CBSDFW.COM) - Country singer Randy Travis has yet again been hit with an intoxication charge in North Texas. The Grayson County Sheriff's Office said that Travis was arrested overnight following a one-vehicle crash near his home.
Sgt. Rickey Wheeler with the sheriff's office said that a state trooper arrested Travis around midnight Tuesday on FM 922 at Clover Road near Tioga, where the entertainer lives.
A 911 call placed to the sheriff's office late Tuesday night said there was a man lying in the road. When troopers arrived at the scene, they found Travis. The country singer had been involved in a one-vehicle crash and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.
Wheeler said that, in addition to the DWI charge, Travis faces a charge of retaliation or obstruction. Travis refused a blood and breath test at the scene, and threatened to shoot and kill the troopers working the case while being transported, warranting the retaliation charge.
A judge ultimately granted a search warrant for a blood test, which was taken at a Sherman area hospital where Travis was being treated before being booked into the Grayson County Jail. His bond has been set at $21,500 due to the retaliation charge, a felony. He bonded out of jail Wednesday afternoon.
On February 6, Travis was charged with public intoxication after being found in a vehicle parked in front of the First Baptist Church of Sanger, about 20 miles from Tioga.
