Lewisville Lake Docks Damaged By Storm

OAK POINT (CBSDFW.COM) - The worst of the rain is over for North Texas, but area lake levels may still go up as the water settles, and that could be bad news. Lewisville Lake, for example, is already at flood stage. However, the level is still expected to rise after showers on Wednesday.
The Army Corps of Engineers could release water from Lewisville Lake, and Grapevine Lake, as soon as Thursday. The water would go into the Trinity River. Water from Lake Ray Roberts up north also flows down here.
Not only did Tropical Depression Bill dump a lot of rain, it is also being blamed for damage to the marina at the Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club. Sometime late Wednesday night, between 9:00 p.m. and midnight, heavy wind and rain broke off three docks that hold at least 50 boats. The docks drifted several yards away.
An officer with the Oak Point Police Department also said that, three weeks ago, the boat ramp there was at a 45 degree angle and on dry land. Now, the ramp is floating because of recent rainfall.
Boat owners went out on Lewisville Lake on Thursday to assess damages to their crafts and the docks. "We bought our boat in 1976," said owner Chance Beck with a nervous laugh. "It would be bad if we lost it."
Beck's boat was not severely damaged, but he understands the pain that some boat owners might feel about losing what is like a second home for some people. "We've been here 20 years, working and maintaining all of this," he added. "It's devastating."
These are private docks, not owned by any city. Officials said that the insurance company has already been called. The attention has now been turned toward how the vessels will be pulled to shore and repaired.
