Rain Causes Fort Worth Sewer Collapse

FORT WORTH (AP) - City officials in Fort Worth say heavy rains in the area have caused a sewer line to collapse, resulting in overflows in a neighborhood.

The collapse was discovered Monday while searching for the cause of reported overflows that hadn't receded. City officials say bypass pumping will occur until an emergency repair is complete.

A fish kill was found in one pond in the neighborhood. The pond is being aerated to restore oxygen levels.

City officials say that because of the large volume of rainfall, the wastewater is heavily diluted.

The city has notified the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality of the overflows and the corrective actions it is taking.
