Jury Hears Tape Of Warren Jeffs Discussing Sex
SAN ANGELO (AP) - Texas prosecutors have played an audio recording of a polygamist religious leader instructing his 14-year-old "spiritual wife" on how to please him sexually.
Warren Jeffs is head of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which believes polygamy brings exaltation in heaven.
The 55-year-old is charged with sexually assaulting two underage girls and could go to prison for life if convicted.
Prosecutors showed church records indicating he married a 14-year-old in January 2004. They then played a tape where he instructs her and another young wife how to "be close" to him physically and thus please God.
Authorities say the 14-year-old on the tape was 15 when she gave birth to Jeffs' child.
Jeffs is representing himself. He claims his rights to religious freedom are being trampled.
