Prosecutor Says He'll Bring In Texas Rangers On Paxton Case
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Prosecutors say a criminal complaint against Attorney General Ken Paxton over an admitted securities violation will be examined by the Texas Rangers.
Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said Thursday that his office doesn't give someone a break because they are "rich, famous, important or powerful." His statement follows criticism that
Willis had been dragging his feet on a possible investigation.
Paxton was fined $1,000 by the Texas State Securities Board for being paid for investment advising without registering. His aides have previously described it as an administrative oversight.
The criminal complaint was originally filed by Texans for Public Justice, a left-leaning watchdog group. Founder Craig McDonald says Willis has a conflict of interest and should recuse himself.
Paxton is a former state senator from Collin County.
