Princeton ISD Teacher Arrested For Sexual Assault Of A Child
PRINCETON (CBSDFW.COM) - A North Texas junior high school teacher has been placed on leave after being arrested for allegedly having inappropriate physical contact with a child.
Teacher Matthew Pappas was arrested on Wednesday and charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.
Pappas is a teacher at Clark Junior High School in the Princeton Independent School District. Princeton is a city in Collin County, about 12 miles east of McKinney.
CBS 11 News learned May 9th that the female victim made the allegation on May 7. The girl, who is under the age of 14, was a student of Pappas when he taught elementary school in Princeton. The girl's family and Pappas family were apparently also acquainted and friendly, with the victim and her siblings often going to his house to play and watch movies.
The girl claims the first inappropriate incident happened in September of 2012, when Pappas laid down next to her, put his hands under her clothing and fondled her. The second incident was of the same nature and took place in December of 2012 or January of 2013. All of the incidents allegedly happened while the girl's siblings in antoher part of hte house watching a movie. She said Pappas would always stop what he was doing when the movie was over.
Princeton ISD administrators sent a letter to parents on May 8. According to that note, Princeton police have verified that the alleged victim is not a Princeton ISD student. Officials also said the purported assault did not take place on school property.
Pappas, 30, is a math teacher who has been working in the Princeton ISD for less than 10 years. School district leaders say they "will fully cooperate" with the investigation.
After his arrest Pappas was taken to the Collin County Jail and has since posted $100,000 bond and been released.
