Potential Health Risks Assessed On 2 Dallas ISD Campuses

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Potential health risks at two Dallas ISD campuses have prompted extra attention to the cleaning of both schools.
At Lakewood Elementary in east Dallas, the district is trying to determine what has caused a number of unexplained illnesses. Parents have complained children are coming home with headaches and stomachaches.
The district said it disinfects campuses daily, but planned to bring in an outside company Thursday night. A letter to parents said the third party would arrive after regular staff had finished their daily cleaning "to verify their effectiveness." The district has also tested the water at the school and asked Atmos to look for any potential gas-related issues. It's awaiting results in both cases. Parents are being asked to share information on any students who have visited doctors.

The problem at Zimwalt Middle School in south Dallas, meanwhile, appears clear. The district said it has discovered mold in three classrooms and an office. It said it immediately moved students and staff out of those areas and into other classrooms. It's now testing the rest of the school for mold and repairing areas where water has crept in.
At both campuses, the district is encouraging children feeling sick to let their school nurse know.
