Possible Drowning At Frisco Athletic Center

FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Frisco firefighters were called to a 'possible drowning' at an outdoor pool at the Frisco Athletic Center Friday night. The center is located at 5828 Nancy Jane Lane.

When firefighters arrived, they found a toddler unconscious. Firefighters called for an air ambulance. The three-year-old child was flown by CareFlite to Children's Medical Center in Dallas.

Dispatch received the call at 7:07 p.m. Firefighters arrived at 7:11 p.m. CareFlite was dispatched at 7:17 p.m. and departed for the hospital at 7:43 p.m.

Investigators said a lifeguard on duty pulled the toddler from the facility's 'lazy river', which is 3 feet-6 inches deep. Once the toddler was out of the pool, the lifeguard was assisted by another lifeguard. Together, they began applying chest compressions and clearing his airway until firefighters arrived.

There were 22 lifeguards on duty at the outdoor pool at the time of the incident. Recreation staff reports 149 people were using the outdoor pool area when the accident happened. The outdoor pool area was closed following the incident.

The incident remains under investigation. The toddler's condition is unknown. No other details are available at this time.
