Ponder Man Sentenced To Life In Murder For Hire Plot
DENTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - A Ponder man was given the sentence of life in prison by a Denton County jury Thursday after he was caught paying to have his wife killed two years ago.
The jury deliberated a couple hours before sentencing John Frank Howard to life in prison for hiring a hit man to kill his estranged wife.
Earlier this week, the jury found Howard guilty of conspiracy to commit attempted capital murder.
Testimony during the trial showed Howard had a mistress and had collected money for years to hire the hit man to kill Nancy Howard. Howard skimmed over $7 million from an employer and paid the would-be hit men nearly a million dollars for the deed.
She was shot in the face at point-blank range as she got out of her car in her Carrollton garage two years ago. She survived, but lost an eye.
The gunman and his driver still face charges.
When giving an victim impact statement to the court, Nancy Howard looked directly at her ex husband and said, "You once told me your weaknesses were the three G's: girls, greed and glory. Well they got you, didn't they?"
The couple's three grown children during the punishment phase of the trial had asked for leniency for their father.
