Political Reporter Jack Fink: President Obama's State Of The Union
The following is analysis from CBS 11 political reporter Jack Fink.
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Tonight, President Barack Obama delivers what could be his final State of the Union Speech.
Make no mistake, tonight's speech will start the general election campaign for the President.
He will lay out his agenda not only for the next year, but what he hopes to accomplish during the next four years.
Political analysts believe the President will emphasize the issue of fairness as it relates to taxes, in which the wealthy would pay at a higher rate.
Mr. Obama will also target the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, who he has blamed for blocking his efforts to improve the economy.
Congressional Republicans will continue to block the President's agenda saying what Mr. Obama wants to do would hurt the economy even further.
After the President's speech, he will hit the ground running and travel to Las Vegas, Nevada Wednesday and Denver, Colorado on Thursday.
Vice-President Joe Biden will head to Rochester, New Hampshire.
What do those states all have in common? They are among the dozen or so battleground states where the general election will be won or lost.
Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, and possibly Michigan are all considered by most analysts being as up for grabs.
Let the race begin in earnest.
