Political Reporter Jack Fink: Gingrich's S.C. Win 'Changes Everything'
The following is analysis from CBS 11 political reporter Jack Fink concerning Newt Gingrich winning the South Carolina primary on Saturday.
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – This is a huge win for Newt Gingrich. This changes everything.
Mitt Romney's support fell apart quickly in South Carolina –– and now, even though Romney has the money and organization in Florida, the pressure is on him to win the Sunshine State.
The momentum is clearly on Gingrich's side, and it will be interesting to see if he can use that momentum to raise money and build an organization with just nine days until the Jan. 31 Florida primary.
Florida's delegates are winner take all. South Carolina is proportional.
Rick Santorum may have to drop out quickly.
Also, Ron Paul's campaign has indicated that the Surfside-based U.S. representative will skip Florida and head to Nevada, the site of the next election contest. He finished with about 13 percent of the vote in South Carolina.
In the 2008 Florida primary, Paul secured just more than three percent of the vote.
The Sunshine State isn't as conservative as South Carolina. Marco Rubio, the junior U.S. Senator in Florida, is a tea party favorite and defeated the establishment candidate, Charlie Crist, during the Republican primary there.
Crist was most recently the governor of the state.
