Police Warn About Counterfeit Texas Rangers Tickets
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - It seems fans aren't the only ones who like it when the Texas Rangers get in the playoffs; police say criminals like it too. Now police in Arlington are issuing a warning about buying counterfeit tickets.
"Unfortunately there are always some in the criminal element that will try to take advantage of the playoffs and they will try and sell what we're considering counterfeit tickets," Arlington police Sgt. Chris Cook explained.
Besides the fact that ticket scalping is illegal in the area around the ballpark, police are urging fans to be vigilant when purchasing game tickets.
"Make sure that if you're buying tickets, for either today's game or as the Rangers progress in the division Championship series, make sure you buying tickets from an authorized seller," urged Sgt. Cook.
Authorities say a lot of bogus tickets look very real, so a buyer can't trust their eyes.
Police say it's fortunate for them that counterfeiting isn't a big problem, but unfortunate for the buyer. "It's not a real big issue for Arlington however, for the one person or the family that comes in with counterfeit tickets and they thought that they bought a legitimate ticket, it's horrible," Cook said.
The purchaser of an illegal ticket will lose their money and still not be able to go to the game.
To prevent Rangers fans from being turned away at the gate Sgt. Cook suggests that buyers, "Make sure that if you're buying tickets, for either today's game or as the Rangers progress in the division Championship series, make sure you buying tickets from an authorized seller."
Authenticity of a Texas Rangers ticket can always be confirmed with the Rangers office.
