ALLEN (CBSDFW.COM) - Friday marks 48 hours since the latest in a series of car burglaries at Allen gas stations have left customers on edge at the pump.
Police say they've received few tips, so they really want the public to take a close look at surveillance video with the hope that someone can lead investigators to the suspects.
When you consider how close you are to your vehicle while you're pumping gas, it really is amazing how fast these thieves have been able to pull off these burglaries just while victims backs are turned toward the pump.
In one case caught on surveillance video, the victim even caught the thief who still managed to get away by jumping back into the suspect vehicle as a partner drove them away. That case was from Wednesday at the RaceTrac on Exchange Parkway just west of Highway-75.
That follows two other cases from Tuesday, one at a Tom Thumb and another at a 7-11 both a little more than a mile south near McDermott and 75. All three cases happened in the middle of the afternoon in broad daylight. Police are urging customers to be mindful of their surroundings and to keep their doors locked. Now many at the pump are worried they could be next.
"It could happen to me. It could happen to anybody. I could push the unlock button, and all doors are unlocked, so it's definitely a risk to take," Cindy Rodriguez said while pumping gas at the 7-11 where thieves struck Tuesday.
Police believe these are the same suspects in all three cases.\
