Police: Tyler Woman Left Baby In Car During Movie
TYLER, Texas (CBSDFW.COM/AP) -- An East Texas grandmother is facing a child endangerment charge after police say she left her 5-month-old granddaughter in a car so she could watch a movie.
Tyler police say bystanders noticed the infant sleeping in the car seat Wednesday after 8 p.m. and called police. The Tyler Fire Department was able to unlock the car and retrieve the child. Police say she wasn't injured.
Carmike Cinemas employees helped locate the 49-year-old grandmother, who told police the child was alone for at least an hour. She says the child's mother was at work.
Temperatures reached 85 degrees in the Tyler area on Wednesday.
The grandmother was booked into the Smith County Jail and faces a child endangerment charge.
Police say Texas Child Protective Services is investigating.
