Police: Suspects Caused Wreck, Robbed Victims
CARROLLTON (CBSDFW.COM) – The summer vacations of two Carrollton high school students began with possibly the most frigtening moment of their lives: They were robbed at gunpoint after two men intentionally hit their car.
The crime was unusual; not only for the circumstances, but also the time and location. Police say it happened during the day in the Newman Smith High School parking lot and just down the street from the the police department. It has left the two high school girls terrified.
The two 17-year-old Newman Smith students were on their way to basketball practice at the school's gym Wednesday morning when the Black Acura they were in was rear ended while driving down Josey Lane.
The girls pulled into the parking lot of the school expecting to exchange insurance information. That's when they say a passenger in the other vehicle pointed a gun at them. He demanded their purses and phones before taking off with the car.
Carrollton Police say it's a crime they've seen before, but still called the timing odd.
"It's fairly unusual for it to happen at 9 o'clock in the morning on a busy street during traffic hours in front of a high school," said Carrollton officer Jon Stovall.
Carrollton Police don't have any leads or suspects.
The vehicle used to hit the girls is described as an early 2000s model gold Jeep Grand Cherokee.
