Police Shoot Suspect In Fort Worth Standoff
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A suspect was shot by police officers following a standoff in far west Fort Worth early Monday morning. The incident started just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday night when the 53-year-old man allegedly assaulted a family member at their home in the 10800 block of Fandor Street, just a bit away from Tannanhill Intermediate School in the White Settlement Independent School District.
Authorities were told that the suspect had locked himself in a room with firearms and refused to come out. Police officers spoke to the suspect, who said that he wanted the officers to leave the residence. Police believed that the suspect would fire at them if they did not comply, so they followed his instructions.
The man's wife and two teenage sons were able to get out of the home safely. They told police that the man had pointed a gun at them while aruging earlier in the day. The argument finally reached a point where the family decided that calling 911 was the best option.
After the initial responding officers had left the home, additional authorities arrived on the scene and attempted to get the suspect to exit peacefully, but a standoff ensued over the next four hours. The suspect eventually did come outside waving several weapons. He refused to put them down and, at one point, police said that he raised one up into the air. It was at this time that the man was shot by an officer.
The suspect was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. His name has not yet been released. Crime scene investigators now remain on the scene.
