WEATHERFORD (CBSDFW.COM) - Police were forced to shoot and kill a robbery suspect following a confrontation in a Weatherford motel room late Tuesday night. The incident happened at the Super Value Inn, located along Interstate-20 near Main Street.

Lt. Chris Crawford with the Weatherford Police Department said that officers attempted to arrest a 36-year-old man on felony robbery warrants. When the officers entered the room, they first tried to subdue the suspect with a non-lethal Taser. However, police reports stated that the suspect was unaffected, and came at officers with a knife.

Four police officers then shot the suspect. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released. An unidentified adult female was also in the motel room. She was not harmed during the confrontation. In fact, she let the police officers into the room before police found the man in the bathroom. But the woman was taken away in handcuffs. according to witnesses.

Other guests at the motel were still on edge Wednesday morning, after police woke people up Tuesday night in their search. "I was sitting on the bed and I thought I heard gunshots," recalled Ashley Myers, who was staying a room next to the suspect. "It sounded like there were six or seven."

"I did hear the cops say, 'Stop! Put it down or we will shoot,' and apparently he didn't," added motel guest Laurie Carden, who was in the room above the suspect. "The next thing I knew was strictly gunfire. That was horrifying."

"He probably had five or 10 seconds before they started shooting at him," said motel guest Tavi Allen. "We weren't there. We don't know what he did, but we could definitely hear it."

The four officers who shot the suspect are now all on a routine leave. The Texas Rangers are conducting a further investigation into this incident.
