Police Shoot & Kill Man At Fort Worth Home

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Fort Worth are investigating a shooting involving one of their own officers. The incident occurred at about 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday morning in the 400 block of Havenwood Lane.

Authorities originally received calls about a burglary in an affluent neighborhood located near the Woodhaven Country Club, in the east part of Fort Worth. Two uniformed patrol officers responded to a home where a security alarm was sounding.

While investigating around the home, officers met up with an adult male who was armed with a handgun. At least one of the officers fired and struck the man, killing him at the scene. But, according to former city council member Becky Haskin, that man was simply a neighbor who was also looking into what may have set off the security alarm.

The Fort Worth Police Department has not confirmed that information as they are continuing to investigate the case.

Haskin, who also lives in the neighborhood, identified the now deceased man as Jerry Waller. She said that he was retired and nice. Haskin also said that she heard five shots during the incident, and witnessed a police officer sobbing after the shooting.

The officers were not injured during the incident, and are being placed on a routine administrative leave. Their names have not been released.
