SULPHUR SPRINGS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Sulphur Springs are searching for a suspect accused of shooting and killing someone earlier this month. Tilton Joshua Isaiah Mapps is wanted in connection with the shooting death of Jonathan Trahern Young.
Authorities stated that the 20-year-old suspect and the 26-year-old victim were both at Pacific Park in Sulphur Springs on the morning of June 8. According to Sgt. David Gilmore with the Sulphur Springs Police Department, Young and his friends were there for a barbecue when he and Mapps "had words."
Young was shot and killed.
Police are now looking for Mapps. He has been described as a black male, 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 130 pounds. He has a thin mustache and a goatee, along with a word tattooed in cursive on the left side of his neck. Authorities said that Mapps should be considered armed and dangerous.
Authorities believe that Mapps could now be with friends and family members in the Dallas area. He was arrested for a weapons charge in 2013 by the Garland Police Department, and has previous arrests for evading police and drugs. He is listed as residing in Greenville.
Anyone with information about the suspect's current location is urged to contact the police immediately.
