Police Search For Shooter In I-635 Road Rage Incident

MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) - A North Texas woman unwittingly became the target of a gunman while driving on a busy expressway.

Mesquite police are looking for the man who fired a shot that narrowly missed the 39-year old woman as she drove northbound on Inerstate-635, near Cartwright Road.

The incident happened Monday afternoon just before 3 p.m.

Lieutenant Bill Hedgpeth said the woman claims there was no incident or altercation and that she did nothing to provoke the shooting.

"Our complainant said she was going down the road and that the vehicle was driving erratically and started encroaching in her lane," Hedgpeth explained. "She had to swerve completely into another lane, at one pint, to avoid being struck by that vehicle."

Police are perplexed, worried about the shooting and what the gunman is capable of doing.

"That's the thing that concerns us, is that it appears to be completely random. Especially the time of day, during a weekday, we're not aware of any connection between the two parties."

Hedgpeth said the SUV exited off I-635 at Scyene Road and that's the last anyone saw of it.

There were two male suspects inside the older model, dark green colored Chevrolet Suburban.

Police are hoping someone saw the SUV Monday afternoon, or even the shooting, and will call detectives at (972) 285-6336 or (972) 216-6297.
