Police Say Tips Coming In For Southlake Murder
SOUTHLAKE (CBSDFW.COM) - Two days after a man was gunned down in South Lake's town square, the community wants the rest of the story.
Police and federal investigators have set up a command post while they search for the suspects.
So far, about 20 tips from the public have come in.
Masked men gunned down the victim, Juan Chapa, in broad daylight as he was getting into his car with his wife. Sources say Chapa had a law practice in Mexico with drug traffickers as clients.
CBS 11 talked with Brooks Chief Deputy Urbino Martinez from South Texas, who has been dealing with drug cartels in Texas for years. Martinez says he is not surprised by drug cartels moving into upscale communities.
"Doesn't surprise me at all," said Martinez. "They are drawn to communities that are gated, communities that have guards. Communities that are not going to pay attention to what neighbors are doing. They don't have to worry about the neighbor looking out the window finding out who it is."
Chapa lived in a gated community with is wife and three kids. No arrest has been made in his murder. His family is now under police protection.
Investigators say the suspects took off in a white SUV, with Texas plates containing the letters BHY.
