Police Say Sorority Rapist May Appear To Be "Nice Guy"
PLANO (KRLD) - Police who have been investigating a string of sexual assaults on women in Collin and Denton Counties said that the man they are looking for may not fit the typical profile of a rapist.
Police said that four women have been raped since November of 2010. All four are former members of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. The women -- all in their 50s and 60s -- were alone in their homes when the attacks took place.
Plano police officer David Tilley said that investigators believe the attacker, more than likely, would be described as a "nice guy" by the people who know him. "We don't believe that this guy comes across as a monster," said Tilley. "This guy could very likely be somebody who is thought of as a big teddy bear, a compassionate individual."
Tilley said that all of the victims told police that the man who raped them was very polite in how he spoke to them. One of the women said that he called a few days after the attack to see if she was okay.
A task force made up of detectives from the Plano, Coppell and Corinth Police Departments have released both a composite sketch and surveillance video of the suspect, who the victims describe as a black man in his late 30s to mid-40s. They say he stands between 5 feet 7 inches tall and 6 feet tall, and weighs between 250 and 300 pounds. At the time of the attacks, he had a thin, well-trimmed beard.
Tilley said that they believe the man lives in or has connection to North Texas.
"People may look at it and say, 'Okay, this [man I know] may look like this guy, but he would never commit an offense like that,'" said Tilley. "This guy is very likely carrying on a double life."

Tilley said that tips are kept anonymous, and that initial investigations take place without the subjects knowing it. He said that they have the rapist's DNA on file, so any charges filed would be based on a match and not on an eyewitness identification. If you have any information on the case, police ask you call 972-941-2148 or Crime Stoppers at 877-373-8477.
