Frisco House Explosion Was End Of Standoff
FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - Police have released new information about a mysterious house explosion in Frisco early Tuesday morning, revealing that the incident was not what it first seemed. The explosion was reported just before 1:00 a.m. in the 6100 block of Arlington Drive, in a residential neighborhood.
But the situation originally started as a domestic disturbance call on Monday night. Police arrived at the home shortly before 10:00 p.m. to find the suspect inside with several firearms, according to a news release. That man was identified as 38-year-old William Chad Coleman. Through 911 calls made during the standoff, Coleman had allegedly threatened to come outside "blazing fire."
Officers outside heard loud noises and windows breaking before seeing flames and explosions coming from the home's garage. Coleman then exited the home and surrendered to authorities. He was taken to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation, before going to jail and being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Possible arson charges are pending. His bond is currently set at $150,000.
The explosion left a gaping hole in the home's roof, knocked down part of an exterior wall and damaged an SUV in the garage, but nobody was hurt. Officials have not said what caused the explosion.
The victim in this case, authorities said, drove herself to the Frisco Police Department after being threatened and chased away from the home with a handgun. Coleman and the victim are engaged.
