Police Investigate Stabbing & Robbery Along The Trinity Trails
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A jogger was attacked Thursday morning along the Trinity Trails in Fort Worth.
The male victim, who was running along the levee near Isbell Road, was stabbed and robbed. The man was cut several times, but his injuries are not believed to be serious.
Neighbors like Juan Ruiz worry about violence in the area near Rockwood Park. Ruiz said he likes to get some exercise and enjoy the fresh air, but admits that he tries to be aware of his surroundings. "I walk this right here, this levee, many a time and it's been safe a lot of times, but then if you see strange people walking around…" he said.
Ruiz said he still walks the trails, but not alone. "Usually I bring my dog, and my daughter or my kids and grandkids. And usually I have a stick with me, or something, ya know just in case."
The 24-year-old jogger was attacked on a gravel pathway; it's a trail that Monica Burns said her husband often goes along while riding his bike. Now Burns says she will take extra measures to stay safe. "I would go with somebody and I would probably carry some mace or something, but that definitely gives me…. I would think twice before going alone."
As for the attack Thursday morning, police said when they arrived they found the jogger near the levee. The man told police that as he was running he saw two people sitting under a tree, smoking. The man said he just kept jogging, but when he neared the pair one person approached him and asked for money. When the victim said he didn't have any money one of the suspect's pulled out a knife and demanded his wallet. It was then the victim was attacked with the knife and had his wallet stolen.
The name of the victim has not been released. Fort Worth police say they continue to investigate the incident and search for the attack/attackers.
