Police Investigate Bomb Threat In Denton
DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Denton responded to a bomb threat at a drug store on Monday afternoon. The incident happened at about 2:00 p.m. at the CVS Pharmacy located in the 100 block of West University Drive.
A male suspect called the store and demanded that a female employee provide him with Green Dot card numbers. These are cards which a customer can purchase and load with funds at the cash register, like a prepaid debit card. The suspect demanded four card numbers, each containing $500 in funds.
According to the employee, the man said that he would blow up the store if she did not comply with his demands. The suspect said that he and his friends had placed a bomb inside of the store prior to the phone call, and added that his friends were watching over the store while he was on the phone.
The store employee told police that the suspect spoke with a Middle Eastern or Indian accent, and clearly had knowledge of the Green Dot card process. She called 911 on a personal phone and alerted her store manager.
The company's regional manager explained that several other CVS Pharmacy locations across North Texas had received similar phone calls recently, and they believe it to be scam. A second phone call was answered by the store manager, and he hung up the phone immediately.
The Denton Fire Department was called to the store to inspect the building, but they did not find an explosive device on the premises. Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate this case. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Denton Police Department.
