DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police surrounded a house in Dallas early Wednesday morning for a standoff with at least one alleged robbery suspect. The incident began at around 3:45 a.m. along Estacado Drive, just south of Garland Road on the east side of White Rock Lake.
Police responded to the scene after an armed robbery. The victim saw the suspect go into the home and called the authorities to come help. When officers arrived, lights inside of the home switched off and the premises went dark. Police knocked on the door, but there was no response.
At least seven police cars were in the neighborhood, and officers could be heard speaking over a bullhorn. Estacado Drive was blocked off, but there was no word about nearby homes being evacuated.
Two people -- one man and one woman -- exited the house peacefully just after 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning. They were both placed into handcuffs and taken away from the scene. A third person -- another man -- followed a short time after. Police have not said if these individuals are suspects or if they will face any charges.
Authorities stayed at the scene for a fourth person who remained inside of the home, and was said to possibly be armed. Just before 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a series of more than a dozen loud explosions could be heard at the location. Then, about 20 minutes later, the fourth person was taken into custody.
While initial reports indicated that only four people were at the home, officers continued to monitor the scene after the fourth person was detained. Another series of explosions were heard and, soon after, a fifth individual -- a woman -- was brought out of the house.
Officers had guns drawn around the home, and there were additional concerns about nearby Casa View Elementary School. It is located close to the standoff scene, only about one block away. The campus was placed on lockdown on Wednesday morning and police worked with the Dallas Independent School District to route buses around the area. That lockdown has since been lifted.
